Hydrosols are a by product of the production of essential oils and may be used for the same general purposes for which one would use the corresponding essential oils or herbs. Hydrosols provide gentle, soothing relief from all sorts of skin conditions. They are particularly beneficial for use on babies, elderly people or people with sensitive skin.
Apply directly to skin as spray mists, splashes, compresses or soaks. Use to hydrate dry skin, tone sluggish skin, freshen tired and stressed skin, soothe sunburned skin. Use as an ingredient in creams, lotions, gels, masks or other personal care products. Hydrosols work well when added to the water phase of the preparation, or better yet, replace the water in the recipe.
 

Herbal Extracts in glycerin solution or olive oil.
Use 3% to 5% in your skin care formulas.   Useful in your handmade lotions and creams as well as any other skin care product that has water as part of the ingredient list.  Just reduce the water by the amount of extract you are using in your formula. Can add to cold process soaps as well. The extracts in olive oil can be added to the oil portion of your formulas and directly to your soap formulas at trace.

Calendula - A hydroalcoholic extract of the flowers of Calendula officinalis in a glycerin solution.  Benefits include cell repair, antiseptic, bruises, burns, sores and skin ulcers.  Skin-soothing effect.

Green Tea - A hydroalcoholic extract of Camellia sinensis in a glycerin solution.  Immune enhancing properties.  Excellent for cell regeneration and dry, mature skin.  Excellent anti-oxidant.

Witch Hazel - A hudroalcoholic extract of Hamamelis virginiana in glycerin solution.  Well known astringent, disinfectant wash.   Makes a good cleanser for "troubled" skin.  Use in a 20% solution with aloe vera gel or juice for this purpose.  This is not the drug store witch hazel.
